For a good body buzz and often helpful for medical use, these hardy Indica-dominant strains are excellent for outdoor growing in northern Europe.

Holland’s Hope

This indica-dominant strain is called Holland’s Hope because it was specially bred for the cool, wet and short summers of Holland – almost identical to what we get here in the British Isles.

In short, it’s designed to grow outside around here so you will experience no problems getting a successful crop in by September.

As well as being hardy, another feature of this special strain is high mould resistance. (If you’ve ever lost an entire crop to mould blight then you know how important this is.)

Holland’s Hope is one of the oldest Dutch strains and has simply raised the standard for outdoor performance throughout northwest Europe.

Genetically an indica, Holland’s Hope plants will stay compact, growing a metre or two high, and give a hefty yield of up to a kilo per plant, although this will depend on the outdoor conditions. The flowering time is 7-8 weeks so it can usually be harvested in late September.

So what’s it like when harvested? Well, it has a sweet rich taste, THC levels of 14-15%, and will give you a very pleasant heavy body buzz. It’s also popular with medical users since it’s so relaxing it can help relieve stress and pain.

Early Girl is one of the quickest maturing outdoor Indicas you’ll get (not counting autoflowers), with a flowering period of just 50-60 days (7-8 weeks).

Early Girl is also a predictable and resilient strain and can be grown almost anywhere outdoors – even in a small space like a balcony or rooftop garden.

Durban

Durban is possibly one of the most well-known strains for performing outdoors and maturing quickly for an early harvest.

It’s originally a subtropical strain – named for the South African city of Durban. However, several seedbanks have now bred a strain which does equally well in northern temperate climates too.

Durban is one of the purest Sativas you can find these days and is more compact than more equatorial Sativas, becoming branchy and bushy.

You can usually harvest Durban by the end of September.
